Linksys

what happened on 1/11/2010:

1/ comcast internet connection not working with direct modem to laptop ( no wireless router)
2/ seems finally bad cable, so changed cable it works fine
3/ for this to work go to " Control Panel\Network and Sharing Center" -> "Manage Network connections"
4/ here you see icons for 'Local Area connection' and 'Wireless Network connection' , only one has to active at any time otherwise it will conflict. so while doing 'wire less' right click other ICON ( LAN) and disable it and Vice Versa.

5/ so with step 4) the comcast to laptop direct Wired connection started working ( comcast guys reset the modem, this can also be done with auto phone call to comcast )

6/ as said in step 4) you need to keep only " LAN or Wireless " as active , not BOTH

finally connected to Linksys wireless router

a) it did not work
b) pushed the 'Reset' red button on LInksys with a sharp PIN , reset done wireless working.

- now with 'Red button' reset linksys is http://192.168.1.1 ( NOT 192.168.2.1 ) so default name is liksys not linksysasr ...

2/ so I went with linksys router , here are the things i did with it
- default ip go get linksys page on browser is http://192.168.1.1 with admin/admin as uid/password
- got the page and did 2 changes 1) entered SSN name as linksysasr b) changed IP to 192.168.2.1 ( in the url below they said chnage to 2.1 instead of 1.1 ) c) changed host to comcast.net d) timberland name does not matter
